The community of Florence, Kentucky, is rallying to help a man rebuild his home after it was severely damaged by fire. Richard Reinhart spent decades building his home by hand, and when it caught fire on Saturday, he escaped safely with his wife. The loss was especially significant as the house was meant to bring generations of his family together. Neighbor Danielle Armstrong called 911 after spotting the fire and has since taken a leading role in helping with recovery efforts.
Reinhart was recently diagnosed with an aggressive type of brain cancer, making the rebuilding effort more urgent. Armstrong describes the home as her neighbor’s long-term project and says his goal is now to return to it and leave it for his family. She started a crowdfund to raise money to rebuild the house and support that goal.
Armstrong, who has known Reinhart for decades, says he’s always supported her, motivating her to help him now. She’s also organizing local fundraisers, including a dinner event at a sports bar this weekend. She hopes the community effort will help Reinhart return to the home he built and be able to spend his remaining time there.
