A 12-year-old boy from England was recently honored for saving his mother’s life after she lost consciousness while driving last month. According to police in West Mercia, Zac Howells’ mom, Nicola, suffered a sudden medical episode behind the wheel with her foot still on the gas pedal. The car was still moving when Zac realized something was wrong.
The tween tried to wake his mother before taking hold of the steering wheel himself. He guided the vehicle onto a grass verge to slow it down, then switched off the engine once the car stopped. He then called emergency services and provided their exact location. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
On Saturday, Zac received a Chief Constable’s Commendation for displaying exemplary courage and bravery. Chief Constable Richard Cooper says Zac’s calm and mature response helped prevent danger to both his family and other road users.
