While driving along a busy section of highway A1A in Brevard County, Florida, this past Sunday, John Brittingham spotted two toddlers standing in the road with traffic rushing by. Without hesitating, he pulled over, used one hand to wave down cars, and the other to lift the children out of danger, carrying them both safely off the roadway.
His dashcam captured the entire rescue and Brittingham says watching the video again later was emotional, especially seeing the girls reaching their arms out for help. After getting them out of harm’s way, he walked to nearby homes, calling out and knocking on doors while holding the toddlers, hoping to find their family.
He soon discovered an open back gate and found the children’s family, an elderly couple and a young girl who hadn’t realized the toddlers had wandered off. Brittingham explained what had happened and the family apologized. The good Samaritan says the rush of the moment left him with a pounding headache and completely drained for the rest of the day.
