An Ohio couple, Joni and Nelson Janney of Miamisburg, recently finalized the adoption of four siblings, 15-year-old Chevy, 12-year-old Kaleb, and 10-year-old twins Vida and Zoey. The adoption stands out as a rare instance where a full sibling group wasn’t separated. Judge Ralph Winkler, who oversaw the adoption, says that out of about 25-hundred adoptions he’s presided over in the past decade, fewer than 10 have kept all the siblings together.
From their very first visit, the Janneys felt an immediate connection with the children, spending time together on vacations and watching them thrive in school. Nelson says it soon felt as if the siblings had never not been part of their family. The couple was already familiar with adoption through their youngest son, Nicholas, who they adopted several years earlier.
The timing, just ahead of Thanksgiving, made the moment especially meaningful. Joni says she’s grateful that everyone would head into the holidays sharing the same last name. The family plans to celebrate throughout the season, including upcoming birthdays for the twins, and they describe the experience as a blessing.
