The Most Sleep-Deprived States In The U.S. (is CT on the List?)

More than a third of U.S. adults aren’t getting enough sleep, according to the CDC, but it turns out, those in some states may be more bleary-eyed than others. Whether it’s from staying up late watching murder shows, kids waking you up in the middle of the night, or a snoring partner, millions of Americans are falling below the recommended seven hours a night, and new research uncovers where the drowsiest folks live.

  • Amerisleep’s study on the most sleep-deprived states has just come out.
  • The mattress company crunched the numbers, analyzing demographic data from Google search results for more than 400 different sleep deprivation-related terms and phrases to come up with the list.
  • They found that the most popular search terms nationwide are “insomnia,” “sleep apnea,” “sleep paralysis” and “sleep disorder.”
  • So, which state is the most sleep-deprived? California tops the list, showing the most concern and curiosity for their sleep issues with an average monthly search volume of 805 per 100-thousand residents.
  • Maryland is second with 705 monthly searches per 100-thousand residents, followed by New York with 765.
  • On the flip side, the most well-rested state in the country is Montana, followed by South Dakota and Idaho.
