*LIST* The Most Popular Passwords In The U.S.

We need passwords for just about everything, from streaming services to social media and health portals, but that doesn’t mean we’re any good at coming up with them. A new study reveals the most common passwords in the U.S. and it turns out, we’re pretty lazy about them.

  • NordPass has just come out with their seventh annual list of the 200 most common passwords in 44 different countries.
  • The tech company teamed up with NordStellar to analyze passwords that were exposed in “public data breaches and dark web repositories.”
  • One of the biggest data breaches in history happened in June, when an estimated 16-billion passwords for logins to social media accounts, VPNs and user accounts for companies like Apple and Google, were leaked online.
  • The most common password in the country is “admin,” followed by “password.” The rest of the world isn’t doing much better, as “123456” tops the list globally, with “admin” at number two.
  • To create a strong password, NordPass recommends using at least 20 characters, including numbers, letters and special characters. Use a longer password even if the platform doesn’t require it, and don’t reuse them, always create a unique password for each account.
