A California grandmother is being called a hero after family members say she pushed her young granddaughter out of harm’s way to keep her from being hit by a car during school pickup last week. The woman was struck by the vehicle and rushed to the hospital with major injuries, but she’s expected to make a full recovery.
The granddaughter suffered a broken collarbone and is home resting. Parents in the area say traffic concerns around the school have worried families for years and many hope this latest incident will lead to the city adding more visible safety measures.
Local officials admit there’s a problem and say they’re reviewing the current setup, while school leaders are reminding families to follow traffic rules during the busy pickup times. The girl’s mother worries that this could happen to anyone and is praising the grandmother’s instincts for saving her daughter's life.
