Noli’s Pizzeria in Omaha gave away $20-thousand in free food in less than a week to help community members dealing with food insecurity. Owner Joel Marsh started the free meal program and says the response was so large that the restaurant had to temporarily close for a day to restock and allow staff to rest. He says he’s seen the need firsthand through the emotions and gratitude of the people they’ve helped feed.
The program has brought attention to the number of community members who are struggling to put food on the table. Marsh says the experience has been emotional for both him and the recipients, and his employees have been working hard to support the effort as demand has grown.
The pizzeria plans to continue offering free meals, but to keep the program going, they’ve set up a crowdfund campaign, are accepting donations from customers with orders, and are seeking partnerships with other local businesses. Marsh says he’s hopeful and intends to continue working to address food insecurity in the community.
