From mass shootings to natural disasters, bad things can happen no matter where you live. But some states seem to do a better job at keeping residents safe and a new report reveals which ones they are.
- WalletHub has just come out with their ranking of the Safest States in America in 2025.
- It compares the states on 52 key safety factors in five categories - personal & residential safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness.
- These include everything from hate crime incidents per capita to identity-theft complaints per capita to road quality to the number of climate disasters.
- Based on all of that, Vermont tops the list as the safest state in the country.
- It lands at number one for both financial safety and road safety, has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the U.S. and the lowest percentage of people who use phones while driving.
- Connecticut is first for personal & residential safety, while Virginia is number one for workplace safety and Alaska is tops for emergency preparedness.
- Landing at the bottom of the list is Louisiana, making it the least safe state overall.
