Grant Mullen, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, often volunteers with his dad at the local recreation center for people with special needs. When his parents recently asked him what he wanted to do for his ninth birthday, he chose to make his celebration about others rather than himself. Instead of asking for presents or games, he asked if he could invite everyone from the local center to his party.
Grant’s father explains that volunteering together has been an important part of their lives. He believes it helps children learn compassion at an early age. Inspired by this spirit, Grant wanted to make sure people at the center, who he says don’t often get invited to birthdays, could feel included and loved.
His simple but powerful wish turned into a celebration of kindness and community. Grant’s party brought joy not only to the birthday boy, but also to his guests, showing that the best birthdays are the ones where no one is left out.
