Florida lifeguards at Flagler Beach had an unusual rescue last weekend when they found a deer struggling in the Atlantic Ocean during stormy weather. Despite recent shark sightings in the area, the lifeguards successfully brought the deer to safety. One of the lifeguards had to hold onto the heavy, fighting animal while tired from the rescue.Β
After getting the deer out of the water, the lifeguards worked with Flagler Beach Fire Rescue to help guide the animal across the busy A1A road and back toward the forest. Fire RescueΒ Chief Stephen CoxΒ praised the team's efforts, saying in his 15 years on the job, he had never seen a rescue like this. Wildlife officials confirmed the deer was unharmed and able to walk, so it was safely released back into the wild. Nobody knows how the deer ended up in the ocean in the first place.Β
