Police officers in Cranford, New Jersey, are handing out special tickets to children caught wearing their helmets while biking. The tickets, which are redeemable for a free slice of pizza and a drink at one of two local restaurants, are a way to reward kids for following safety rules.
This is the third year of the program, and officers have already spotted and rewarded several young riders around town. The community has responded positively to the effort.
In addition to the tickets, the town also hosted a rodeo that focused on road safety for both cyclists and drivers. Police say the goal is to create a culture of safety that could help prevent serious injuries.
