Last week, 66-year-old Gary Edwards intervened to prevent a carjacking at a gas station in Marietta, Georgia. Police say he saw a suspect physically attacking a woman at the gas pump in an attempt to steal her car. Without hesitation, Edwards ran across five lanes of traffic and tackled the suspect, stopping the assault.
Following the confrontation, the suspect fled and allegedly tried to carjack another vehicle with two adults and a toddler inside. Edwards chased down the would-be carjacker and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. Officers arrested the man and booked him into jail, charging him with robbery, child cruelty, and cocaine possession.
The good Samaritan’s wife, Anna, says his heroic actions didn’t surprise her. She describes him as someone who wouldn’t hesitate to help. Marietta police praised Edwards' quick response, acknowledging the personal risk involved in intervening in violent crimes, but they advise the public to always prioritize safety and call 911 when witnessing crimes.
