On Monday morning, a two-year-old girl who went missing the previous evening was found safe by a jogger in Philadelphia’s Champion Park. According to police, the child was with her family in the park when she wandered away near the playground area around 7:45 p.m.
Despite extensive search efforts, police weren’t able to find the girl on Sunday night, but officers remained in the area overnight. At around 8:20 a.m. on Monday, a woman jogging in the park discovered the child standing in a brushy area. Medics evaluated the girl before reuniting her with her grateful mother.
Philadelphia Police Inspector Deshawn Beaufort says the child had a few minor scrapes, but was otherwise fine, saying, “Very alert, very awake, seems to be in good health, you know, for a child that [was] in the park all night long.” Captain John Ryan was pleased with the outcome, noting that it was good the jogger took a less-traveled path, putting her in the right place at the right time.
