Stress is a part of daily life for many Americans, whether it comes from money, family, health, work or relationships. But research shows overall stress levels aren’t the same across the country and it turns out, where you live may affect how stressed you are. And a new report reveals which states residents are feeling stress the most.
- WalletHub’s list of the Most (and Least) Stressed States is out for 2025.
- They compared all 50 states on 40 key indicators of stress, in the areas of work, money, family and health & safety-related stress.
- States were rated on factors that range from average hours worked per week to the personal bankruptcy rate to the number of adults getting adequate sleep.
- Based on all of that, this year’s most stressed state is New Mexico, which is number one for family-related stress.
- Alaska, 11th overall, is first for work-related stress, while Mississippi, fifth overall, is number one for money-related stress, and West Virginia, fourth overall, is the state with the most health & safety-related stress.
- On the flip side, Nebraska is the least stressed state, coming in at 50 for work-related stress and in the bottom five for other categories.
