According to Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavioral Expert Erin Askeland, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Certified Behavior Consultant, it’s no coincidence that the top puppy names are two syllables. She explains that short, two-syllable names help get a pup’s attention when training and socializing. When deciding what to name your puppy, she recommends:
- Keep it short and distinct - Simple names with two-syllables are easy for dogs to recognize.
- Avoid names that sound like commands - They might confuse Kit with “sit.”
- Think about longevity - You want the name to suit the dog when they grow up, too.
