Longing for some sun and sand between your toes? Spring break is coming up and millions of Americans will be hitting the road in search of warm weather, but they don’t have to break the bank to get there. Travel experts say that even though this is a popular season for trips, there are still great deals out there if you know where and when to look.
“By selecting destinations with affordable flights and low-cost accommodations, travelers can enjoy a memorable getaway for a fraction of what they might otherwise pay,” explains NerdWallet’s Sally French. So what do the pros recommend to cut costs for spring break getaways?
- According to Expedia, timing is key when planning your trip. They advise booking three weeks to a month before your departure to save as much as 25%.
- The booking site’s experts also recommend avoiding holidays, like Easter and Mother’s Day, as well as the last two Saturdays in March, which are expected to be extremely busy.
- They suggest significant savings can be found for the week of April 28th and note that the week of May 19th, just ahead of Memorial Day, will be one of the quietest of the season.
NerdWallet recommends these affordable destinations for spring break 2025:
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - 24 nonstop routes from the U.S. and accommodations that can cost as little as $21 a night make this a budget-friendly destination.
- Orlando, Florida - The travel experts point out that while Orlando will be busy this spring, there’s no shortage of affordable hotels.
- Paris, France - “You don’t often see France and “cheap” in the same sentence, but because of low-cost airlines such as French Bee, flights are as low as $350 round-trip during spring break,” shares NerdWallet. They add that hotels tend to be more expensive, but you can find some for less than $100 per night.
