Quassy Amusement Park has successfully recovered a stolen sea monster carousel figurine after nearly 40 years. The rare hand-carved figurine, known as the "Lake Quassapaug sea monster" or hippocampus, was stolen from the park in November 1985. The figurine was discovered in a Florida warehouse by Roland "Rock" Hopkins, a historian and broker of antique carousel figurines. After authenticating the piece, Hopkins alerted Quassy officials, who negotiated a deal to repurchase the figurine. The sea monster will undergo a complete restoration before being displayed at the park. This recovery marks a significant moment for Quassy Amusement Park, as the figurine was a beloved part of their historic E. Joy Morris carousel. (fox61.com)
