Connecticut is one of the BEST States for Teachers!

While teachers likely have one of the most important jobs out there, it is often a thankless one, with many teachers being overworked and underpaid, and definitely under-appreciated. But some states do a better job than others at treating their teachers fairly, and a new report reveals which ones they are. 

  • WalletHub just came out with their annual list of the Best and Worst States for Teachers.
  • They judged the 50 states and District of Columbia on 24 key indicators of teacher-friendliness, in areas of opportunity and competition and academic and work environment.
  • The factors included things like starting salary, income growth potential, pupil-to-teacher ratio, teacher security, quality of school system and more.
  • Topping the list this year is New York, which earns a 59.93 out of 100.
  • New York comes in third for academic and work environment and in fifth for opportunity and competition.
  • California is tops for opportunity and competition, while Delaware is tops for academic and work environment.

  5. Washington

  7. Pennsylvania
  8. Massachusetts

  • On the flipside, Hawaii has been named the worst state for teachers, scoring just a 33.36.
  • Hawaii comes in at 49 opportunity and competition, in the bottom ten for academic and work environment.
