After a lifetime living on the street Bucket has a bucket list: tender loving care, a comfortable place to lay his head, plenty of new friends who will appreciate his sweet personality and easy-going ways.
An 8-year-old mixed breed boy, Bucket came into shelter after spending his life on the streets with a companion who grew too sick to care for him. He is 50 pounds of gentle spirits with a mostly white coat, a black pirate patch on one eye and an affectionate heart. He is a bit nervous in cars as he learns how to ride around in them but is wonderful with dogs, cats and children.
Bucket is perfect for the family looking for an easy new furry friend as he is already housetrained and adores being out on the leash. Rescue dogs have experienced several transitions and will have accidents as they become comfortable in their new home. If crate training is planned, Bucket needs a crate that is big enough for him to turn around and lie down. Crates need to be warm welcoming places and must never be used for punishment.
Bucket is missing a bit of hair on his back and legs due probably to his life on the streets and has been successfully treated for ear infections. Join Bucket on the next steps in his journey, give him a new lease on life with a comfortable loving home and watch Bucket thrive with new friends, new adventures and a whole new world of comfort and care.
The adoption fee for Bucket is $300. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees.

About Dog Star Rescue:
Dog Star Rescue, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, is a dog rescue organization based out of the Hartford CT area. We work closely with shelters in the South as well as New England states to save the lives of loving and loyal dogs who have lost their way and find themselves on death row. Our team of wonderful volunteers get these adoptable dogs the medical and emotional care they need so they can transition into a loving forever home. To date, we’ve placed over 4,000 dogs with new families.
All of our amazing volunteers are unpaid and donate their time because of their passion for helping dogs. They spend significant time each week helping guide dogs to a wonderful new life. If you ask our volunteers, they’ll tell you they do it for a wide variety of reasons, including personal satisfaction in helping address a nationwide problem, their love of dogs, and a desire to have fun socializing with like-minded people. Dog Star is always looking for new volunteers to join our group, so if you would like to be a part of our organization, please check out our Volunteer Opportunities page.
Dog Star Rescue, Inc. is a grass-roots effort started by a group of dog lovers with experience in the rescue world. Learn about our organization’s mission, along with our reasons for adopting a rescue dog and information about some of our current volunteers. To check out our recommendations for other companies and services that love dogs almost as much as we do, see our Friends of Dog Star Rescue page.
What’s the meaning behind our name?
The name Dog Star comes from the common name for the star Sirius, reflecting its prominence in its constellation, Canis Major (Greater Dog). The symbolism of the star as a guide to a safe passage is what we strive to do for our adoptable dogs as we find them a new life with a loving family.
