Rip Wheeler is a special boy who needs a special home.

Meet Rip Wheeler:

Rip Wheeler is a special boy who needs a special home. Rip is a Belgian Malinois mix who was found roaming the streets, doing as he pleased. This hunk weighs in at a whopping 70 pounds (of muscle)! Rip came into the shelter and found himself overwhelmed with all of the commotion that a busy day brings, causing many distractions with his training.

Because of this, Rip took a “vacation” to focus on himself at Empire State K9 services, where he was professionally trained. Rip put in the hard work and came back a changed man! This boy THRIVES with consistency, structure, and stability. For Rip to continue his success, he will need an active owner who is dedicated to continuing Rip’s personal journey to becoming the best version of himself that we all know he can be.

Empire State K9 has offered to work with Rip’s adopter to enable continued success and to aid in a smooth transition to “home life”, something that Rip has not been fortunate enough to have…yet!

Although Rip likes other dogs, not all other dogs like him, as his play style is very rough and rowdy. In order for Rip to get the attention and time he needs, he will need to be the only animal in the house. Due to his size, strength, and doofiness, Rip will not be placed with children.

Rip qualifies for Pets for Patriots.

About Animal Welfare Society:

The Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (AWS) was founded in 1965 as an independent, non-profit, non-destroy animal rescue organization. AWS originally only served the communities of Bridgewater, Brookfield, New Milford, Roxbury and Washington, CT. Our shelter was built in New Milford in 1991 and renovated and expanded in 2019.

Our mission is to offer refuge to homeless and abandoned dogs and cats and place them in loving, responsible homes.

Each year hundreds of animals are rescued by AWS from our local communities, throughout our state and from high-kill facilities outside of Connecticut. Some are turned over to us because their owners have become ill, died or are in a family crisis. Others are found as strays or are abandoned. We partner with our local and state animal control officers on abuse and neglect cases and work with reputable rescue organizations instate and beyond.

From the moment they enter our shelter, these animals receive loving care. We provide excellent veterinary services including a complete panel of vaccinations, preventative worming, feline leukemia testing, flea and tick prevention, canine heartworm testing and treatment. All our cats and dogs are spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption.

Some animals need more extensive medical treatment which we provide and is additionally supported by a special Emergency Medical Fund.
