Starting This Week, All CT Walmarts Going Bagless

Walmart is getting rid of all single-use plastic bags in the state of Connecticut. This started on Wednesday, January 18th.

This includes checkout and pick-up purchases.

Customers are encouraged to bring in their reusable bags. There will also continue to be reusable bags to purchase in stores.

Delivery will continue to utilize paper bags, and stores will continue providing single-use bags in areas that prevent food contamination or as required by law.

This update has been reflected on Walmart's website, where it says the following.

What is Walmart's single-use bag policy in my state?

  • Maine, Vermont, New York, and Connecticut: Single-use bags aren't available in Walmart stores or for pickup. Please bring your own reusable bags or buy them at checkout. Delivery will be fulfilled in paper bags.
  • New Jersey: Single-use bags are not available in Walmart stores or for pickup. Please bring your own reusable bags or buy them at checkout. For delivery, you can opt out of reusable bags when finalizing your purchase.
  • All states: Bags will continue to be used as needed for raw meats/proteins, produce, and chemicals to ensure food safety and prevent cross-contamination.
