In honor and remembrance of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr

Monday is a holiday celebrating the life of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and many museums will be offering free activities and there will be events across the state. Here are a couple I’d like to highlight:

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist, one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.

FREE Community Day Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. takes place from 11am to 2pm at the New Britain Museum of American Art. In commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday, the NBMAA is partnering with the CT Center for Non Violence to present an afternoon of art-making, music, and learning. Drop into activities led by local artists and activists to express love, practice empathy, and celebrate community.

Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at The Wadsworth Atheneum, through art making, performances, and tours for all ages. Explore The Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s exhibition Art and Activism at Tougaloo College during its final day in Hartford and learn how art can catalyze social justice. Work alongside the Public Art For Racial Justice Education team in a portable mural highlighting national leaders of the civil rights movement. Free admission all day and the event is noon to 4pm.

Join the Yale Peabody Museum, CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the New Haven Museum for the 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy of Social and Environmental Justice with two days of free, hybrid events open to all. Sunday and Monday!
