Lucky 13 Survivor Story: Meet Remmi

Text "K9Support" to 76278 to help donate to the medical funds for the Lucky 13

Remmi and family joined by the Hometown Foundation, Renee, and community access assistant Lynnsey!

On April 28, 2022, 31 working dogs were seized by Connecticut state and local authorities in a horrifying animal cruelty case that saw K-9s allegedly shot and killed at BlackRock Kennels. With a long history in animal welfare and a successful K-9 program, The Hometown Foundation, Inc. stepped in to help adopt and relocate 13 service dogs, who were dubbed “The Lucky 13.” The dogs were malnourished and in need of assistance, including both dietary and medical needs, putting The Hometown Foundation into immediate action. As the K-9s were bred and trained to be service dogs for Law Enforcement or TSA Police K-9s, the Foundation’s goal was to properly nurse the dogs back to health and place them in proper loving homes or back into the police workforce in law enforcement. Now 11 of “The Lucky 13” have been successfully placed onto their rightful healthy paths.

Listen here for Renee's interview with Ian and Dawn Frew with daughter Gillian Farina, the family that adopted one of the "Lucky 13" and Shayla Collier, Program and Development Coordinator at The Hometown Foundation, Inc!

Remmi with his loving family

“Remmi, being one of thirteen out of this group to have been rescued by the Hometown Foundation, has been an absolute blessing.

We are beyond fortunate enough to have had the chance to adopt him into our family.

For anyone who has met him, you can tell that he is the gentlest soul. All he wants is love and attention. Which is what any dog who has survived that facility deserves at the bare minimum.

A chance that the hometown foundation gave him! And we couldn’t be more grateful.”
