Listen here for Renee's interview with the founder of Running for Rescues, Jody Dougherty as they talk about the upcoming Mulligans & Mutts 5K happening on November 5th!
The Mulligans & Mutts 5k is a brand new race you can run with your four-legged best friend on the beautiful golf course at Hawks Landing Country Club in Southington, CT.
Run or walk with your dog on the cart path through the golf course surrounded by rolling hills and the beautiful landscape of this fantastic golf course.
There will be a finishers medal for you and your canine companion to take home, as well as post-race goodies for all!
Sign-up now as spots are limited and the race is guaranteed to sell out fast. *Please note, out of concern for the dogs participating in this race, there will be no "winners". We don't want Sparky running faster than he normally would just to please his owner. Thank you for understanding.
There are three tiers for registration:
1. In-person with your pup (shirt for u & a medal for u & your pup) $40
2. In-person Bare Bones option without pup $20
3. Virtual (medal for you & your pup) $40
Wanna have another bi-ped run with you and your pup? No problem! Tell them to head over to the Bare Bones registration page
Please note that this participant will not receive a race shirt or finishers medal, but will be able to partake in the post-race festivities.
Don't have a mutt that likes to socialize? There are a limited number of Virtual spots available, too. You and your pup will receive a finishers medal that will be mailed to you within 4 weeks of the event date! But hurry, because when they're gone they're gone.
Post Race:
There will be food available for all runners as well as a special treat for your 4-legged running partner.
Athletic Brewing will be at the finish line to help you re-hydrate with their award-winning non-alcoholic beer, too!
100% of the proceeds from all races go directly to the nonprofit, Running for Rescues. Please visit their website here to see what they're all about!

About Running for Rescues
Doing the Right Thing for Animals and Rescue Organizations
Running for Rescues Inc. was basically born out of frustration. I mean, how many dogs can one person adopt, foster or sponsor? Not enough. I would be headed for divorce court or an episode of Animal Hoarders if things kept going the way they were, so I decided that I had to do something else.
I like to run…well, maybe “like” is a strong word. I kinda like to run and had done some fundraising before for an animal welfare group, but didn’t think it appropriate to keep begging and threatening the same friends (those of you who know me, know that there aren’t many of these) and family every year to donate to “my cause”. Plus, the funds I collected were only going to one specific organization – which, by the way, is a GREAT organization. But I thought to myself, “how about spreading out the fundraising efforts across the country so lots of animals and organizations benefit?” In other words – it was time to ask other people to run and beg their friends and family! Voila! Running for Rescues was conceived.
Running for Rescues is a nonprofit organization that assists shelters and rescue organizations nationwide by helping them to pay outstanding veterinary bills. Our main source of funding comes from runners all over the country that independently fundraise for us. We also have a small line of clothing that we offer online. 100% of any item you purchase goes to charity!
Ever wonder what happened with the $50 donation you sent to the ASPCA or The Humane Society? While these are both great organizations, they are corporate top-heavy. We don’t get paid here. With Running for Rescues, you’ll actually be able to see how the money that has been raised is spent. We will post pictures of the dogs and cats that we help to rescue with funds that you ran for (or tri-d for).
