People and Pets, when we’re kinder to animals we’re kinder to people! And starting at an early age will ensure more kindness in this world! This year we’ve added a new category to our awards, kids making a difference in their community to create, promote and using their voice for animal advocacy. We couldn’t think of a better recipient for the Mark Twain Excellence in Service Award to a Youth than our newest Kid Governor!

Makhi Ettienne-Modeste who was elected on his Protecting Our Pets platform. His platform focuses on three points. Creating awareness and teaching kindness to fellow with graders, a marketing campaign that includes making posters to show kindness and donating and fundraising for shelters. He also enjoys playing with his dogs Blue and Paco! CLICK HERE for more info on Makhi!

We are also honored to have Lt Governor Bysiewicz and Department of agriculture’s Commissioner Hurlburt present this award!
