There’s a lot to love about being a woman, but it’s definitely not cheap. We’re not talking about clothes, shoes, and purses, but razors and period products, too. According to new research, the average woman spends $1,639 on her wellness alone every year.
A survey of 2-thousand women between 20 and 50 years old reveals that many struggle to afford everything they need, including 61% who feel like they can’t keep up with all their hygiene must-haves.
- The average woman estimates that almost a quarter (23%) of every paycheck is spent on her health and hygiene needs.
- More than a third (38%) have concerns every month about how they’ll pay for health necessities.
- On top of that, 53% admit they struggle to afford their wellness needs.
- A breakdown of what they’re spending on wellness in a year shows the most money is going to doctor’s visits ($232), skincare ($227), undergarments ($222), hygiene products ($219), and vitamins ($209).
- And then there’s the average of $182 on period products, $197 on prescriptions, and $151 on intimacy items.
- As prices keep rising, 42% of women polled have delayed paying for other necessities to afford wellness needs.
- Some have even avoided buying pain relief (27%) or delayed treating infections (14%) to try to save money.
- Nearly two-thirds (64%) of women who didn’t see a doctor for an infection say cost was a major factor in their decision.
- Others have stretched how far vitamins (51%), underwear (49%) and skincare (49%) will get them.
- But even with all that spending, the average woman only feels 72% healthy. And one in six rate their health below 50%.⠀
