You’ve probably noticed by now that your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Mornings can be hectic, and too many people wake up stressed, hurried, rushed, and tired. Productivity experts made a list of five things you should never do at the start of the day to be productive, have more energy, and have a better mood.
- Don’t Doom-Scroll: You can easily get lost down a social media or news rabbit hole, delaying the start of your day. If you start the morning with doom-scrolling, it’s easy to lose focus and procrastinate. Although it’s important to stay informed, it’s better not to absorb so much negative information first thing in the morning.
- Don’t slowly ramp up your day: More adrenaline earlier in the morning can help you “hit the ground running,” which makes for an overall more productive day. A jolt of adrenaline can really get you going rather than slowly starting your day.
- Avoid complex tasks: Complex, in-depth, or time-consuming tasks early in the morning put a deadline on the task, increasing the risk of rushing, ignoring, or misinterpreting information, and making mistakes. Complex tasks at the beginning of the day can raise stress levels, which is a bad way to start your day.
- Don’t wake up super early: Getting more (or hopefully enough) sleep is more important than setting the alarm earlier to get a head start. Getting a good night's sleep is probably the best thing to do before a busy day.
- Don't start the day without a clear idea of how you want it to end: Intentions are key to reaching your goals. Set a goal for yourself the night before, so you know where your next day is headed. Always have an idea of what you intend to accomplish by the end of the day.
