America’s Favorite Pumpkin Foods

It’s that time of year when America's obsession with all things pumpkin hits its annual peak! With home decor, arts and crafts projects, foods, and drinks, pumpkin products are everywhere during the fall. Here’s America’s Favorite Pumpkin Foods:

  • Pumpkin bread (20 states): America’s most searched for pumpkin treat is pumpkin bread. The moist, spiced bread combines the comfort of homemade food with the warm spices of the autumn season.
  • Pumpkin muffins (11 states): In second place are pumpkin muffins, which are the perfect individual-sized treats that pack all the warm spices of traditional pumpkin desserts in the easy grab-and-go format. This desert satisfies the need for efficiency and indulgence during the fast-paced autumn mornings.
  • Pumpkin cookies (nine states): Pumpkin cookies are the best of both worlds, combining the beloved American cookie with the love for pumpkin spice. The cake-like cookies have a tender crumb from the moisture of the pumpkin puree and are often topped with cream cheese frosting.
  • Pumpkin soup (four states): Pumpkin soup represents the savory side of America’s love for pumpkin food. It often combines roasted pumpkin with vegetables, herbs, and a touch of cream.
  • Pumpkin seeds (three states): These protein-packed seeds are typically roasted with salt and spices, creating the perfect snack. Plus, pumpkin seeds are one of the best plant-based sources of zinc and magnesium, with more protein per ounce than most nuts.
  • Pumpkin pie (two states): The classic pumpkin pie has been a Thanksgiving staple since colonial times but has been overshadowed by newer pumpkin treats. The drop in popularity might be due to the effort and skill required to make the perfect pumpkin pie from scratch, compared to the simpler fall treats.
  • Pumpkin spice latte (one state): Although the pumpkin spice latte is the unofficial drink of fall, it's only the number one treat in South Dakota. The PSL phenomenon transformed how Americans think about seasonal flavors in beverages, inspiring pumpkin spice everything from cereals to candles.
