Quick Cleaning Projects for the End of Summer

As summer wraps up and chilly weather returns, use your spare time to do some quick cleaning around the house that you might have forgotten about while soaking up the summer sun. If you want to stay busy, you're stuck inside on a rainy day, or a bad sunburn forces you to stay indoors, these summer cleaning projects might be the perfect use of your time.

  • Clean vents, blades, and filters: Air conditioners, fans, vents, and air purifiers are always on in the summer keeping the space cool, but we might forget about the dust collecting on these machines. It only takes about 30 minutes to dust or vacuum vent slats and fan blades, and wash or replace air filters.
  • Deep-clean the grill: As the summer grilling season comes to a close, give your grill a deep clean so it’s nice and clean for next summer. Deep cleaning the grill involves cleaning the whole grill top to bottom, not just the cooking grates.
  • Clean pool, beach and camping gear: Before the summer ends, take your camping gear, pool noodles, floats, and beach toys outside, line them up, and hose them down. Check for any repairs, toss anything that is broken, donate items you no longer need, and leave everything to dry in the sun.
  • Wash the car: If it's a nice day, get outside! Bring a bucket of car soap, a hose, and a huge sponge to wash the car by hand. Remove summer items you have stored in your car, and put in whatever you may need for the fall season.
  • Wash pillows and other bulky bedding: Freshening up the bedding after a few sweaty months is a great treat. Give your pillows, mattress pads, comforters, and duvets a wash!
  • Deep-clean trash cans and recycling bins: Perfect for a hot sunny day, give your trash cans and recycling bins a wash! Get out those stubborn stains, hose off the cans, and leave to dry in the sun.
