About National Infertility Awareness Week (April 18-24, 2021)

National Infertility Awareness Week®, founded in 1989 by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, is the largest public awareness campaign that addresses the public health issue of infertility. Even though 1 out of 8 couples has trouble conceiving of carrying a pregnancy to term, it is a disease that causes many who are diagnosed to feel very alone.

Throughout NIAW, the family building community will take action to increase awareness of infertility in order to remove stigmas and improve access to all family building options. Members of the infertility community will share their stories and lead the conversation about challenges to family building and methods of resolution.

Events:

Saturday, April 17; Virtual Yoga for Optimal Fertility with Carissa Spada

We are offering a free yoga virtual class especially for women who are trying to conceive and their partners. Taught by a registered yoga teacher and former fertility patient, Carissa Spada, the classes require no previous yoga experience and all levels of yoga are included for everybody. Registration information on our website at uconnfertility.com

Monday, April 19; #WearOrange for NIAW support campaign

The #WearOrange campaign is designed to raise awareness about the importance of empowering those in their journey and changing the conversation about infertility. Why orange? The color orange promotes a sense of wellness, emotional energy to be shared: compassion, passion, and warmth. Helps to recover from disappointments, a wounded heart, or a blow to one's pride.

Wednesday, April 21; Lunch Time Live with Helen BetGivargis, licensed acupuncturist and former embryologist

Each Wednesday, the Center holds a LunchTime Live video event on their Facebook page. Hosted by Ami Chokshi, this week the guest is Helen BetGivargis to discuss Holistic Coping Mechanisms. She will talk about acupuncture and stress reduction, as well as meditation geared for fertility optimization.

Thursday, April 22; 7pm; Virtual Peer Support Group

Facilitated by Ami Chokshi with special guest host Dr. Kim Crone, Fertility Psychologist. Our peer support groups–for both women and men, individuals and couples–provide an opportunity for open discussion with others who are facing similar challenges in a relaxed and confidential setting. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been in the trenches for years, attendees from all stages of the infertility journey will be warmly welcomed.
