Minutes after President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan into law, the White House announced the "first wave" of $1,400 stimulus checks will start going out this weekend.
"People can expect to start seeing direct deposits hit their bank accounts as early as this weekend," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.
She added that "payments to eligible Americans will continue throughout the course of the next several weeks."
The American Rescue Plan will provide a $1,400 stimulus check to about 90% of Americans. Individuals who earn less than $75,000 per year and couples who make less than $150,000 will be eligible for the total amount. Those who earn more money will see the amount of their stimulus check reduced, and individuals who earn more than $80,000 and couples with a combined income of more than $160,000 will not receive any money.
