Are You Participating in "Dry January"?

In case you hadn’t heard, “Dry January” has officially become a thing. In fact, the numbers show 20% of Americans made plans to go alcohol-free in the New Year…for the first month of it, anyway. If you’re one who’s made the pledge or want to try it and carry those extra couple of days over into February, here’s some of what doctors and experts say you’ll discover when you get to the end of the month.

  • Your digestive process and energy should see noticeable improvements.
  • Drinking makes your skin look “older.” So, expect to look more youthful because you’re not sleeping as much, not hungover as often, and you’re less anxious.
  • You’ll probably be more productive in the morning hours.
  • Your liver will function better and will appreciate the down time.
  • You’ll likely gain some perspective on the role booze is playing in your life and give you clearer vision of the bullet holes in your life that you’ve been putting Band-Aids on.
  • There’ll be a boost to your immune system.
  • You’ll bask in the glory of better sleep.
  • Alcohol is a depressant, so increase happiness could be a side-effect…assuming you’re not a perpetually miserable soul.
  • Depending on how much you drink, you could end up cutting hundreds…if not thousands…of calories from your daily intake.

“Dry January” isn’t for everyone, though. Especially someone who has a legit problem with drinking. For those people, the withdrawal symptoms could be significant and even be life-threatening. So, seeking out treatment from a medical pro would be a better step for them.
