Save pets with every step you take in the Bruno’s Way 5K road race. The run and dog-friendly fitness walk are set for Oct. 24, in the Mill Pond Park area of Newington and will benefit Connecticut Humane Society pets.

Registration is now open at CThumane.org/BrunosWay. There will be awards for top times and a free gift for everyone who registers to save pets’ lives.

Newington resident Andrea Kowal is organizing the trek in memory of her dog Bruno, hoping to make a difference in his honor for pets in desperate need of a fresh start.

This family-friendly event will be socially distanced fun, and is in full compliance with all state safety regulations. Organizers are working closely with Newington officials to ensure social distancing and safety. A staggered start line beginning at 9 a.m. will be used on the certified 5K course. As per the state of Connecticut, there will be no day-of event registration, and registration is limited. Sign-ups must be completed online by 9 p.m. on Oct. 23.

Proceeds from the event will go toward veterinary care for pets in crisis at CHS, whether it’s an urgent surgery for a young dog, long-term treatment for a cat with diabetes, spays and neuters for puppies and kittens, or special care for a rabbit who won’t eat.

CHS aids pets from all over Connecticut through its three locations in Newington, Waterford and Westport and the reduced-fee Fox Memorial Clinic.
