Somers Elementary School Closed After Staff Member Tests Positive for COVID

According to Somers Public Schools, a staff member at Somers Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. The school will be closed for Wednesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 10 as a precaution and for sanitation.

Superintendent Brian P. Czapla released the following statement Tuesday night:

"This evening we were informed that one of the staff working with Pre-Kindergarten students at Somers Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. As a precaution, we will be canceling classes at the elementary school on Wednesday, September 9th, and Thursday, September 10th. I apologize for the late notice and the impact on families and students.

The health and wellbeing of our students, staff, and families continue to be our first priority. During these next few days, we will thoroughly sanitize the building, conduct our contact tracing, communicate with impacted families, and develop plans accordingly. Again, only Somers Elementary School will have classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. We will send out more communications during the next few days."
