Prison Inmates Credited With Saving Deputy’s Life

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia is praising three inmates for helping to save the life of a deputy who suffered a cardiac incident. In a Facebook post, the GCSO writes that the inmates noticed Deputy Warren Hobbs seemed to be “feeling poorly” while doing his security procedures in the housing unit and then he lost consciousness at his desk and fell onto the concrete floor, splitting his head open.

The inmates were locked in their cells, but inmate Michael Smalls saw what was happening and started yelling and screaming and banging on the doors to wake other inmates up. Deputy Hobbs heard the shouting and noise and woke up, thinking an inmate needed help. He managed to open cell doors before losing consciousness again and the three inmates, Smalls,Terry Lovelace and Walter Whitehead rushed to his side and called for help.

“We are deeply appreciative to these three inmates for the courage, determination and kindness they displayed when they came to the rescue of our deputy,” the sheriff’s office writes. They say Deputy Hobbs survived and is recovering at home.
