It’s official, the Washington Redskins are changing their name—to what—we still don’t know.
But we do know that the team will officially announce today what has been widely expected since FedEx told them to either change the team name or be begging for spare change when they pulled all of their naming rights money—that the Redskins name is finally gone.
Sports Business Daily, reports that the new name would not be announced yet because trademark issues are pending.
But what is worth noting is that—while the latest Las Vegas odds favor “Redtails,” “Generals” and “Presidents” to become the new name—none of those names have six pending applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
But the name Washington Warriors does.
