Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has reached an agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots that reportedly could be worth as much as $7.5-million dollars max.
Newton now will step into the mix to try to help replaceTom Brady, who left to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. The other quarterbacks on the Patriots' roster are Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, J'Mar Smith and Brian Lewerke—for now.
Newton, who turned 31 in May, continues to rehab from foot surgery passing a team physical, with both his shoulder and foot "checking out well," according to sources.
I mean is it me or is it just insane that the Patriots could replace a six-time Super Bowl champ likeTom Brady with a recent NFL MVP.
I mean it was just 2015 when Cam accounted for 45 total touchdowns in the regular season to lead the Panthers to the Super Bowl.
To put that in perspective, Hoyer has just seven more TD’s for his entire 11 seasons.
To put it in even more perspective—those 45 TD’s in 2015 are 41 more passes of any kind than the four Stidham has thrown in his entire career.
Making me think Cam has this job for the taking.
