Boy Honored For Helping After Mom Has Seizure While Driving

Lauren Smith was driving her eight-year-old son,Ben Hedger, home from school when she had a seizure behind the wheel. While the kid admits that he was “10 out of 10 scared,” he remained calm and took control of the car, steering it to safety and keeping them from being seriously hurt.

Ben drove about two miles at around 60 mph and then was able to put on the hazard lights and steer onto a grassy area and stop the car. In recognition of his quick-thinking, Ben won a “Pride of Britain” award and was given the “Child of Courage” trophy by former One Direction member Liam Payne. Smith says her son was “so happy and overwhelmed” by the award.
