Non-Profit Takes Leftover Ballpark Food And Gives It To Needy

Fans of the Washington Nationals have lots of food choices when they go to the ballpark. But after every game, there are leftovers -- and the team has partnered with a local charity to make sure that food doesn’t go to waste, and instead ends up going to those who need it most.

The Nationals are working with the group Nourish Now, which coordinates the recovery of food from games and special events at the stadium -- and delivers that food to needy children, families and veterans in the community.

Amazingly, Nourish Now has recovered and redistributed more than 2.5 million pounds of food since starting out in 2011.

They’ve been working with caterers, grocery stores, restaurants and farmers markets. And now, they’ve got a partnership with a stadium that seats tens of thousands of people for each game, which will generate a lot of food for those who need it most.
