Facebook Page Helps Reunite Found Prosthetic Leg With Owner

A pair of cousins who found a prosthetic leg on a Florida beach used the power of social media to help find its rightful owner Farra Bata and Amanda Taylor thought they saw a stingray in the water off Panama City Beach, but it turned out to be the prosthesis. So they turned to Facebook to try to return the leg.

Bata shared a post on the I Love Panama City Beach Facebook page, asking, “Soooo super random question … anyone missing a leg?” They also sent the serial number to the leg’s manufacturer to try to track down the owner, then turned it in to the Panama City Beach Police.

Eventually, their social media plea found the right person. A mother in Arkansas reached out saying her 22-year-old daughter had been swimming at that beach that day and a wave knocked her down, pulling her leg off and sweeping it away. Now it’s in the process of being reunited with the young woman, all thanks to Facebook.
