The Hartford Saengerbund Presents: Maifest 2019

The Hartford Saengerbund will hold a traditional German Maifest party from 2-7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at its clubhouse, 719 North Mountain Road in Newington.

Celebrate the arrival of spring with a meal of roast pig, sauerkraut, potato salad and homemade desserts. German beer and other beverages will be served and there will be live music throughout the event by the Adlers Band, as well as a Maibaum (May Pole) dance.

Admission is $5 and the cost of the meal is an additional $12. Children 17 and younger get in free.

Save the dates: A Taste of Germany food festival is scheduled for the weekend of July 20-21 and Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) returns on Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 28 to Dec. 1.

The Hartford Saengerbund was established in 1858 as a singing society and social club and is the oldest German-American club in New England. Its motto is “Treu dem deutschen Lied” or “True to the German Song.” The public is welcome at all of its events.
