Make This Bourbon Cough Syrup!

Now, that we’re in the prime of the sick season, it’s helpful to remind you that there are flu remedies that are more fun than others. Yeah, the flu shot helps a little, but it’s still no guarantee that you won’t be subjected to some form of raging fever, nausea, chills, and the monkey butt. If you do feel the funk coming on, there’s another preventative step you can take…and it’s only a trip to the liquor store away.

There’s already sciences that leans toward a couple of cocktails daily boosting your immune system, but if you’ve already got something coming, then we recommend grabbing a bottle of your favorite bourbon and taking some notes. Our folks know it as a “Hot Toddy,” but it’s now being called “Bourbon Cough Syrup For Grownups” and it breaks down like this:

  • 2-ounces of bourbon (your choice)
  • 2-ounces of lemon juice (about ½ a lemon if you do it yourself)
  • 2-to-4-ounces of water (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Just put everything but the honey in a mug or tumbler and nuke it for 45 seconds or so. Then, add the honey, and nuke it for another 45.

This is a drink rich in Vitamin-C, and the honey’s really what’s doing all the “heavy lifting” for you as far as the cruddy feeling. But, it’s not like the bourbon’s going to make you feel worse, right?
