Lyman Hall Students Help Those Affected by Hurricane Michael
Last week on November 7, 2018 we held our Hurricane Michael Relief Drive at Big Y in Rocky Hill and had people from all over come to donate people and pet supplies. We are so appreciative of everyone who supported this mission and donated within their means but one group that stood out to us was Lyman Hall High School.
A car pulled up filled with paper towels, baby diapers, cases of water, cleaning supplies, dog beds, dog/cat food and so much more. We were so grateful but even more shocked when they said they had another car load coming later on in the night! When the second car came we were informed that all of these supplies were collected by the students at Lyman Hall High School and led by Culinary Teacher, Sharon Drossopoulos.
How they did it....
Sharon said she wanted the kids to be involved in something that would give back to people in need. When they were searching online they came across our flyer and made a mini drive of their own to collect all of the supplies. On November 5th they braved the rain and went to pick up supplies that people have left on their porch to donate. They filled their entire Lyman Hall Culinary Arts Food Truck!!
We were so impressed and appreciative with their willingness to help and we know they will succeed in their futures. This just goes to show that when people come together for a common cause they can truly make an impact that matters. Because of the students, Mrs. Drossopoulos, and many others we were able to send over 15,000lbs of supplies to people affected by Hurricane Michael. Sharon Drossopoulos just received Teacher of the Year Award and I think it's safe to say it is well deserved. Thank you for all that you do while making a positive impact on our community and youth. The world needs more people like you. Also a special thank you to the students at Lyman Hall for your participation and dedication to such a worthy cause.
