HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Parents looking to save a few dollars on back to school clothes shopping have been waiting for tax-free week and it starts today.

While Massachusetts tax-free holiday was for a weekend, here in Connecticut, it is an entire week.

It starts today and runs through August 25.

Parents can get as many shirts, pants, dresses or pairs of shoes, as long as each item is under $100.

There are certain exceptions like hiking boots, ski boots, sports equipment, and jerseys.

When all is said and done, statewide, taxpayers will save roughly $5 million.
