GOOD NEWS: Cruise Ship Worker Rescued

A cruise ship worker who fell overboard spent 22 hours in the water until he was rescued by a crew from another passing cruise ship. The U.S. Coast Guard reports that the 33-year-old crew member from the Norwegian Getaway went overboard about 28 miles northwest of Cuba and they sent multiple aircraft and a cutter to search for him.

It wasn’t until a cabin steward from the Carnival Glory saw the guy in the water the next day - 22-hours later - that he was discovered and rescued. Carnival spokeswoman AnnMarie Matthews says the man didn’t have any safety device on when he was picked up and they “can only surmise that he was likely treading water the entire time.”

"It was nothing short of miraculous," says Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. "Kudos to the Carnival Glory team for this amazing effort to rescue a fellow seafarer."
