Boy Scout Troop 82 Celebrates Memorial Day!

Fairfield, CT

Leading up to this past Memorial Day weekend, Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 82 joined a local veterans at St. Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield in placing fresh American flags on the graves of those who had served in the armed forces. This honor has been a long-standing tradition for the Scouts of Troop 82.

“The purpose of Memorial Day is not to have picnics, miss a day from school and watch a parade,” noted Troop 82 Scoutmaster, Bryan LeClerc. “It is to honor those men and women who gave their lives for our country while serving in the military. We owe these heroes our respect and honor. Thanks to them, we live in freedom today.”

In addition to the flag placement ceremonies, BSA Troop 82 had the honor of being the Scout representatives at Saturday mornings Sea Ceremony at the South Benson Marina. The event began at 9:30AM with Troop 82 performing the Flag Raising Ceremony at the entrance to the marina complex on Turney Road. Following the Flag Ceremony, members of Troop 82 joined the dock side Sea Memorial hosted by Port Five Naval Veterans.

On Monday, Memorial Day, the Scouts of Troop 82 joined the town of Fairfield in its annual Memorial Day parade with their color guard. After two consecutive years of rain and poor weather canceling Fairfield’s parade, Troop 82 was thrilled to see the parade come together and to participate in honoring all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedom’s we hold dear today.
