Lots of graduates get cheers as they make their way across the stage to accept their degrees, but when Ty Williams walked across the stage to get his from Georgetown University, he got a standing ovation. The grad was a linebacker for the Hoyas when he broke his neck in a football game in 2015 and hadn’t walked in the two and a half years since.
So when Williams stood up out of his wheelchair and walked with the help of an aide and a walker at graduation, it was impressive. Williams earned a degree in government and got a hug from University President John DeGioia in the touching moment.
"I told myself I was going to do it and it really means something once it actually happened,” Williams says. “I was real happy about it."
