JESSICA LANG BRINGS CONTEMPORARY DANCE TO JORGENSEN
Weds, April 18, 2018 at 7:30 pm / Post Performance Q & A
Hailed as “a master of visual composition” by Dance Magazine, award-winning choreographer and artistic director Jessica Lang creates a wondrous, romantic world of music, forms, and motion when she and her world renowned dance troupe bring a program of critically acclaimed contemporary dance pieces to the stage at UConn’s Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, April 18.
On the program will be Lang’s innovative “Lyric Pieces,” a composition praised by London’s Independent as “moving, dramatic, witty and outright funny.” Also on the program will be Lang’s surreal composition for solo performer, “The Calling,” along with the high-spirited composition “Glow,” which the Boston Globe describes as “unambiguously carefree.” Following on the program will be “Sweet Silent Thought,” described by The Huffington Post as “transforming dance into poetry.” Closing the program will be the poignant “Thousand Yard Stare,” described by the Chicago Sun Times as “a remarkable evocation, minimal yet profound, of soldiers in formation and at war: Moving and masterful.” The performance begins at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Following the presentation there will be a Q & A session with Jessica Lang and the dancers.
Voted Best College or University Performing Arts Center in the Hartford Courant’s CTNow, Jorgensen presents 30 to 35 diverse performances each season, from nationally and internationally acclaimed artists and ensembles ranging from classical music to world music and dance, classical ballet and contemporary dance, comedy, family programming and contemporary entertainment.
