HHS Secretary has issued a public health emergency.

According to the American Red Cross they are trying to make sure peoples basic needs are being met and are working with many community partners. 

Harvey is a  catastrophic flooding event and will take months if not years for communities to recover. Harvey had dumped an estimated 15 trillion gallons over East Texas. Round two of Tropical Storm Harvey caused more heartbreak across Texas & Louisiana.

Volunteer: The Red Cross is greatly in need of volunteers to help with warehousing, shelter management, supply distribution and administrative support. Those interested in volunteering can register at redcross.org/volunteer

Emergency Grants for Broadcasters:  The Broadcasters Foundation of America provides emergency & disaster grants to radio broadcasters in acute financial need and who may not have insurance to cover their losses after a natural disaster, such as a hurricane, tornado or wildfire, extreme flooding, house fire or other serious misfortune.  Click here to find the application form: https://broadcastersfoundation.org/emergency-grant-form/.     

An additional organization that our stations are supporting will focus exclusively on raising money for local residents affected by the storm:  Coastal Bend Community Foundation's Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group.

Right now, The Salvation Army has 42 mobile kitchens set up in the disaster zone and it is providing 1,500 meals a day, along with water, clothing and blankets.

CONNECTICUT DRIVES: (dated and will be updated, please be sure to look at the dates & times)

Big Y World Class Market: Money will be collected at registers at Big Y World Class Markets across the state from Sept. 1-16, and will be donated to the Red Cross.

The Connecticut Humane Society: Donate money to the Connecticut Humane Society, which said it is sending a team of people to the affected areas. Funds will go toward purchasing supplies for pets. Find out more. 

Archdiocese of Hartford: special collection at all masses on Sept. 9-10 to support hurricane victims.  "The funds collected over that weekend will be used both to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses."

Animals are being rescued as best they can, here are ways you can help it was stated in no uncertain terms, ANYONE who abandons their animals, leaves them tethered so they cannot get to safety will be punished and treated as animal cruelty cases:
